Farmer’s Day dates back to 1951. At this time, Farmer’s Day was a statutory holiday where schools were closed for the day and events were held to honour farmers in the community. Despite Farmer’s Day no longer being recognized as a statutory holiday, UFA has held Farmer’s Day events to carry on the tradition. Photo Elaina John On May 26, United Church Minister Andrew Kinoti’s son, Sam Kinoti, celebrated his 4th birthday with a drive-by social distance celebration. Members of the church and community arrived at 6:30 p.m. to line up in a parade-like procession to drive past and wave at the birthday boy, some offering balloons and presents. Senior Beverly Hollen has a rich local history, a large part of which has been her involvement in Alberta Women’s Institute. Hollen recalls attending WI meetings since childhood, as her mother Elfreida Westover often would take Hollen with her when she attended. Hollen herself became an official member in approximately 1988. Alberta Women’s Institute (AWI) is a voluntary association for women and has been active for over 100 years. The ’98 Saturn SL-1, modified and driven by Rocky, has been a regular participant of a rally race called the Gambler 500 for three years this year. Gambler 500 originates in Oregon, started by Tate Morgan. Now, Gambler 500 events are held across North America.
