Mau Lam Restaurant Celebrates 35 Years

One of the parts of visiting Mau Lam’s Restaurant for the past 35 years is watching Duc and Anh Phung’s family grow up on the wall behind the cash register, and at the same time getting to share in their customers' memories and special occasions on the bulletin board inside the restaurant. Checking the wall for a glimpse of a new baby, or wedding picture has been many customer's delight when picking up their dinner. While the pictures may have changed over the past three deca

    Vermilion’s Chief Administrative Officer: A Multi-Faceted Role

In Alberta, every municipality employs a Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), and in Vermilion, Kevin Lucas fills this important role. A municipal council is required by legislation under the Municipal Government Act (MGA) to establish a CAO position, complete with determined duties and functions. The council actually has to do this through a bylaw, and any amendments to the job description have to be approved by the council. Hired and appointed to the position by the Town Cou

    Mayor’s Breakfast Back In Person

The Vermilion Ministerial Association held the 11th Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast on March 16 at the Glad Tidings Pentecostal Assembly. Virtually held last year, the in-person event is meant to acknowledge the leadership role that not only the Mayor has taken on, but also the Town Councilors and School Board Trustees that serve the Vermilion area for both school divisions. Master of Ceremonies Reverend Harvey Hussey reminded everyone that being a leader, “is a hard job, and

Enough with the Cats Already While making no secret of the fact I’m a card-carrying member of the, I Love Cats club, a line must be drawn somewhere. Briefly, I can tell you a stray showed up on our deck last fall, pregnant and abandoned. We created a warm kennel for Coconut – so named for her creamy mottled fur – and she gave birth to four adorable kittens. All was going well until the afternoon she disappeared. We searched for her in vain and it was concluded, with much sadn

    A Brief History Of Money

For much of history, people have found methods of exchanging value with one another. Whether that be by trading food, resources, or even exchanging our modern coins or paper money. Strangely, everyone today uses money as a source of value, although many people don't actually know how it came to be used at all. Prior to the first form of currency, implemented about 5000 years ago, many people traded with one another, trading different things such as spices, food, or precious m

    Mexican Wacky Cake

In Mexico, you will find the mixture of chocolate and cinnamon very popular in desserts. In Mexico you will find chocolate cinnamon ice cream, cakes, pies, you name it. Cinnamon has the added benefit of helping to control blood sugar from the high and lows and less fat storage. Here is a homemade cake recipe that requires no bowl and no beaters, so the cleanup is super easy. It contains no eggs or dairy; therefore, this is a great recipe for people with dairy or egg allergie

The Wainwright series was rough for the Tigers for all four games; the team only came close to winning once. In the first game, the Wainwright Bisons won 5-1, starting off the 2nd round of playoffs strong. Game two was a little more balanced, both teams fought hard and in the end, it came down to a single point difference, 6 points for the Tigers, 7 for the Bisons. After another loss, the Tigers were losing hope, and when it came to game 3 they gave the game away, taking a 9-
