Enjoying the sunshine, approximately 500 people attended Art in the Park in Vermilion on September 8. Visitors enjoyed perusing the different mediums of local artwork including jewellery, pottery, painting, and sewing. People travelled from all over the region to attend The Good Life Institute’s event and took in classes, and enjoyed lunch by Lasting Impressions Catering and cinnamon buns at the community oven. “This event has really grown and is in its fifth year,” said Mayor, Caroline McAuley. Inter Pipeline once again sponsored the event through their community outreach program. “It’s nice to stay on good terms with the communities that allow you to run pipelines through their area, and we travel twice per week from Hardisty to Clandonald,” said Inter Pipeline’s Kim Rempel. New and returning vendors included youth and featured local and area products. Blue Gypsy Jewelry’s Brandy Archibald, was a first time vendor at the event and said, “It’s amazing and nice to have alot of locals turnout.” Celtic Jewel Irish Dance instructor, Sidney-Kay Uden, provided live entertainment. The Man Van provided free baseline blood tests to create awareness and provide early detection for Prostate Cancer. Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in Canadian Men. According to prostatecancercenter.ca, one in seven men in Alberta will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and approximately eight men in Alberta die of prostate cancer every week. “Our primary goal is to create awareness about early detection. We had an excellent turnout in Vermilion,” said volunteer Art Bosch. The Museum was open throughout the day and kept people entertained into the evening with a movie.
