Hundreds of students visited Lakeland College as they held an Open House at both Lloydminster and Vermilion campuses on October 19 - 20. Vermilion campus was a hive of activity as the Open House was held in combination with a Career Fair, Little Royal Rodeo, and Band In The Sand. Approximately 400 students had the opportunity to tour the college and experience demonstrations at the farm, in different trades, and at the Emergency Training Centre. Six schools in the local region attended as well as high school students from all over Alberta, Saskatchewan, and one family from Ontario. “The Open House is a great opportunity for students to try out Lakeland College as a potential post-secondary option,” said Recruitment Advisor, Danielle White. “I love the small community feel and friendly faces at Lakeland College,” said Student Ambassador, Tamara Lindstrom who is a third year Lakeland College student completing her Bachelor of Applied Science degree. Prospective student, Dustin Pinder, from Elk Point said, “The tours were really fun and educational. It gives you a chance to experience all of the different trades.” During the Career Fair, prospective and current students enjoyed networking with industry representatives and seeing what was available for universities and exchange programs; agriculture, oil industry, and interior design positions; as well as government, human, and health services. Heather Clair from Farmer’s Edge said, “It’s two-fold because we are recruiting summer students for the data and variable rate side, and getting to talk to students is really fun because they get the technical side.” While preparing to compete in calf roping, steer wrestling, and team roping Stettler’s Brayden Roch said, “Little Royal is the best college rodeo of the year by far.”
