The JR Robson Boys high school curling team took full advantage of their chance to participate in the Alberta School Athletic Association’s (ASAA) provincial curling tournament this past weekend in Lethbridge.

The boys played strong from the start at the first game on March 3, winning 12 to 1, with the game called at the end of the sixth end. Stepping onto the ice Friday morning, they continued to showcase their skills winning 9 to 2. With their first loss on Friday afternoon, the boys finished second in their pool, and were back on the ice bright and early Saturday morning. They finished the weekend playing in the Bronze Medal match Saturday afternoon and successfully came home with Bronze.

Lead Korey Hemauer, second Ethan Ward, third Kolten Sheppard and skip Peyton DeRoo have been curling together since Grade 6, and have one more year of High school curling left. They do not only curl for school, the boys participate in local bonspiels as well, including the Jim Smith memorial and both the Vermilion Junior and Men’s Leagues. Congratulations on a very successful season guys.

Mom Kristin Ward couldn’t be more proud of the boys, “These boys make us parents proud each and every day. To enter provincials as a wild card, an underdog and come out the other side with a bronze medal- well there are no words to describe our feelings- we can’t stop smiling.”
