“Vermilion Folk Club has the best listening audience in the world. It’s an honour to be able to present the quality of performances that we offer in this community,” said Wayne Gochee.

On November 19, a large crowd gathered at the Vermilion Legion to welcome Ken Stead to the Vermilion Folk Club. The Edmonton based performer has attended Come By The Hills before, but this was his first appearance in Vermilion.

Stead’s life partner Erin Kay opened the show for him and they were joined by Kyle Mosiuk on guitar. The couple tours all over Canada and enjoy connecting with like-minded people while sharing their music that stems from their life experiences.

“I’m a pretty optimistic person, and my song writing focuses on the things that bind us together. I encourage others let their walls down and express their feelings,” said Stead.

Before meeting Ken Stead, Erin Kay was a single mother, and much of her song writing is focused on motherhood.

“You can do it. It’s not easy, but you can,” encouraged Kay.

The audience paid close attention and cheered on the performers throughout the evening.

Last year, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts contributed $3,500 to The Vermilion Folk Club helping them be able to continue to bring live music to the community for reasonable rates. Their next event will be an open stage on January 21.
