Boys U-16 Soccer Shows High Potential

Diarmuid Dalton, Vermilion Soccer U-16 Boys soccer coach, said he is confident his squad of 17 players is on hot tracks to the Provincials this year. So far this season the team has been unbeaten in their league and has not conceded a goal.

“All the players are performing really well this season so far. We normally play 3 or 4 tier and take them to Edmonton to a pre-season 2 tier Duggan Tournament to try and challenge them a little bit more, and they won gold,” said Dalton.

Vermilion U-16 Captain Dylan Eremko plays against St. Paul, with Vermilion winning with a score of 7-0 in Vermilion on May 31.

In the league, teams qualify for Lakeland Cup, and Vermilion has played and beaten three out of the five teams in their group so far.

Coach Dalton has been coaching the team for the last four years, and he knows all of his player’s potential, strengths, and weaknesses.

“This group of lads won silver two years ago in provincials. They are a great group of lads; a monkey could teach these guys they are so talented. It’s our goal to win the provincials this year. It wouldn’t be possible without the help of my Assistance Coach Dave Sader and Manager Kim Thompson, as well as the backing and support of the Vermilion Soccer Association,” said Dalton.

The team trains two nights per week with players traveling from Clandonald and Mannville, and a new player to the team this year travels from Lloydminster.
