65th Lea Park Rodeo

Cowboys gritted their teeth in the mud but it didn’t dampen their spirits during the 65th Annual Lea Park Rodeo held June 7 - 9.
Award-winning cowboys and livestock gathered to compete, providing an entertaining weekend for spectators. Announcers thanked the sponsors, volunteers, and the fans. Tickets were purchased throughout the weekend for 50/50 draws, and a Dodge Mega Cab ¾ Ton 4X4 Truck sponsored by Vermilion Chrysler Ltd.
On June 7, bullfighters and pick-up men worked hard to keep competitors safe in the challenging weather conditions. With snow and an abundance of rain on June 7, competitors and fans were happy to see the sun on June 8 and 9.
“Any horse can have a little more unpredictability on a rainy night. The degree of difficulty that will take you to a win can also buck you off,” said the announcer.
The Canadian Pro Rodeo Sports Medicine Team and Lloydminster Animal Hospital were also on scene. Events included Bareback Riding, Barrel Racing, Tie Down Roping, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Bull Riding, a Wild Horse Race, as well as novice events.
Throughout the weekend, rodeo fans enjoyed a range of food and beverages while watching the show. Top notch timed and rough stock performances captivated the audience, and the atmosphere was full of rodeo spirit with a rich history of rodeo traditions that began right in Lea Park. Announcers also credited the committee for keeping the rodeo going for 65 years.
The Marwayne Rodeo Dance continued on June 8, and a cowboy church service was held on June 9, before the final performance.
