On October 17, the Interact Club of Vermilion met to discuss the Teal Pumpkin Project.

The Teal Pumpkin Project is a Halloween program that offers alternatives for children with food allergies, as well as for children where candy is not an option and keeps Halloween a fun experience for all trick-or-treaters. People in the community place their teal pumpkin on their doorstep on Halloween to indicate that they have non food treats.

The Interact club will be painting and selling Teal Pumpkin along with a sample give away bag. The clubs goal is to sell at least 30 pumpkins to help give as many children as possible a fun and safe Halloween. Pumpkins can be ordered from Kirby at Christina’s Home Furnishings up to October 27 for pick up on Oct 30.

The Interact club is an International Rotary service club for ages 12 to 18 and is sponsored by local Rotary clubs who provide support and guidance. Each year, the Interact club must complete at least two community service projects, one local project and one international. Both projects are to help learn the importance of leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others as well as learn to understand the value of individual responsibility and hard work.
