Daines & Daubney opened in Vermilion on March 24. On May 5 the chatter of excited customers filled the air as you entered Vermilion’s new Daines & Daubney decor location for their grand opening. The store is a second location, owned and operated by Dana Smith and her husband, who also owns the Daines & Daubney location in Wainwright. The new location employs local staff, with only one employee coming from Clandonald. “The store has some commonalities between our Vermilion location and our Wainwright location, such as the black awning outside, grey tissue paper, and shopping bags. We have some products that are unique to Vermilion, such as Lampe Berger,” said Smith. Smith went on to explain that when opening the Vermilion location she did her best to avoid duplication of product lines already offered in Vermilion. “We have 160 or more suppliers, and if they are already in Vermilion we do not order from them,” explained Smith. Smith describes the store as a modern farmhouse style with an industrial infusion that offers something for every room in your home. “Our slogan is home decor, accessories, and more. We have a little something for you as well: scarves, clothing, shoes, and jewelry. It’s basically a lifestyle brand, it’s a lifestyle store; it’s a way of life,” said Smith. Mayor Caroline McAuley and Councillor Robert Pulyk welcomed Dana and her business to Vermilion with two plaques at the grand opening ribbon cutting event. The first ten customers received a gift with their purchase while other customers had the opportunity to receive spot prizes and participate in flash sales occurring every half an hour after 2 p.m. with refreshments available all day. Smith says it’s been quite steady since they opened and that the community has been very welcoming and supportive.
