Farmers In Flannel

File photo

Ready or not, autumn is here and that means winter is just around the corner and flannel will be a much-welcomed article of clothing to keep us all toasty warm. Flannel can be traced back to the 17th century, when farmers wore flannel shirts to protect themselves from the harsh weather of winter. Flannel continues to grow in popularity due to its affordability, warmth and longevity and is definitely a go-to piece of clothing for Alberta farmers and Albertans in general.

Last year was the first year Agriculture for Life launched its Farmers in Flannel photo contest and with its over 300 submissions have decided to relaunch the photo contest again which is designed to bring some flannel-fun into people’s lives while celebrating and showing appreciation for Alberta Farmers.

“This year more than ever, we want to show our appreciation and say thank you to all the hard-working farmers and farm-families who ensure we have an abundance of food options year-round,” says Luree Williamson, CEO, Ag for Life. “Our Farmers in Flannel photo contest is a fun way for all of us to just say ‘thanks’! Many people underestimate the amount of hard work that goes into producing the food we eat. By sharing these photos and stories we hope to shine some light on Alberta farmers and thank them for their countless hours of hard work.”

The Farmers in Flannel photo contest is open to all Alberta residents and will run until November 8. You must submit your dressed in flannel photos on the Ag for Life’s website to be eligible to win the grand prize. Winners will be awarded a warm flannel gift pack from one of Ag for Life’s founding members, UFA Co-operative Limited. Participants are also encouraged to share their images on social media using the contest hashtag #ChannelYourFlannel.

Ag for Life will share entries on its website and social media channels. To learn more about the Farmers in Flannel photo contest and how you can enter, please visit: www.agricultureforlife.ca/farmersinflannel.
