Vermilion residents eagerly embraced the arrival of Mi Casa, a new Mexican restaurant located at 4320 – 52 Street, as it opened its doors on January 9. At 10 a.m., members of the town council marked the occasion with a warm welcome, presenting the owners, Marco Castillo and his wife Norma Gonzalez, with a plaque during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Mayor Thronsdon extended his greetings to the couple and expressed hopes for the success of their new venture. Castillo, a seasoned chef with a background in Mexican cuisine, previously worked in tourism and hospitality in Mexico before bringing his culinary expertise to Alberta. After three years, his wife Norma joined him in Alberta and has gained more culinary experience while working at Mrs. J’s Catering.
Sharing his journey, Castillo expressed his lifelong passion for the kitchen, revealing that owning and operating a Mexican restaurant had always been his dream. “I love cooking and I love sharing my cooking and the dishes I create; this was my dream,” shared Castillo.
The restaurant’s name, Mi Casa, translates to “my home” in Spanish. Drawing inspiration from the Mexican saying, “My Home is your Home,” the restaurant aims to replicate the warmth and authenticity of homemade dishes, welcoming patrons just as one would be welcomed into a home.
Since its opening, Mi Casa has garnered positive reviews, with many expressing that the restaurant fulfills a long-felt need in Vermilion. The extensive menu features a variety of dishes, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Mi Casa serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, operating from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday. The owners also have plans to cater to the late-night crowd by extending their hours on Thursdays sometime in the future.
