Town Council Update


A regular Town Council meeting was held on Tuesday, December 7, here are some of the highlights. Meetings can now occur in person at the Town office, with members of the public invited to join the council. You can also continue to watch Council meetings through the Town’s YouTube channel which you can access through their website. The next regular Council meeting is December 21, at 7 p.m.

Councillor Snow moved, “That Council for the Town of Vermilion approves the hiring of part-time vaccine checkers for the Town of Vermilion for the duration of the Restriction Exemption Program (REP).” Council approved this motion, and will be looking to acquire staff to fulfill this role.

It is the time of year again when an external audit of the Town’s finances needs to be done, and Councillor Kevin Martin made the motion that Donald L. Isaman Professional Corporation performs the external financial audit for the 2021 fiscal year. Council approved the motion.

The first reading of the 2022 - 2024 Operating Budget with revenues and expenses detailed in an attached appendix was moved by Councillor Martin and approved by council.

Council also approved the first reading of the 2022-2026 Capital Budget and Forecast with expenditures and funding details, which includes an increase in property tax revenue of 2.2%, and an increase in Water and Solid Waste Utility rates.

Council also approved the retention of the current Sewer Consumption rate that is in place. Netting for the Outdoor Rink was also approved by the council.
