The Vermilion Chamber of Commerce ushered in the holiday season with a spectacular Light-Up Parade, while businesses and organizations held night activities along Main Street on November 24. The event, which featured vibrant floats, delectable food, and a visit from Santa Claus, drew a substantial crowd, creating a festive atmosphere for all. Businesses also offered Black Friday sales for those who were looking to do some Christmas shopping.

As the parade slowly passed along the route, spectators marveled at the creatively decorated floats adorned with twinkling lights and holiday scenes. Santa Claus himself added to the magic as he made a grand entrance atop the Vermilion Fire Department’s ladder truck, delighting both young and old alike.

The festivities continued with a hot dog sale hosted by Christina’s Home Furnishings in support of Hearts and Hands, the hot dog sale provided attendees with a warm treat while contributing to the local community spirit.

Adding another charitable aspect to the event, the Rotary Club of Vermilion set up a cookie sale outside Christina’s Home Furnishings. The proceeds will support Haying in the 30’s. The group raised a whooping $890 from the sale and then took it a step further by matching it, plus a bit more bringing the total to $1800.

Reflecting on the success of the evening, Rotary member Dawn Riley expressed gratitude to the community, stating, “It was such a nice evening outside which really helped. There were so many people out to watch the parade, and it really helped us with our fundraising event. I would like to express thanks to all who supported us.”

ATB Financial contributed to the merriment by hosting a cookie decorating event, accompanied by steaming cups of hot chocolate. Meanwhile, The Red Brick satisfied sweet cravings with hot chocolate and mini donuts available for purchase. The Night Owl, embracing the spirit of giving, offered complimentary popcorn to add a savory touch to the evening.
