Farmer’s Day dates back to 1951. At this time, Farmer’s Day was a statutory holiday where schools were closed for the day and events were held to honour farmers in the community. Despite Farmer’s Day no longer being recognized as a statutory holiday, UFA has held Farmer’s Day events
Approximately 500 people gathered to celebrate Farmer’s Day at Vermilion UFA on June 14.
The barbeque event continues to grow each year, and patrons enjoyed hamburgers and homemade pie.
The enthusiasm continued with live music by 4Up’s Lacey McCrae and Al McKelvie, as well as the Flat Land Beer Bandits. Local honey producers were on scene, and Scotiabank representatives volunteered to assist with the barbeque.
