120th Vermilion Fair Celebrates Another Successful Year Of Tradition

Three days of sunshine, soaring temperatures and community spirit made the 120th Annual Vermilion Fair another memorable success as thousands of visitors gathered to celebrate one of Alberta’s longest-running agricultural traditions.

From the opening parade through to the final grandstand performance, the fairgrounds were filled with families, exhibitors, competitors and visitors enjoying everything the annual event has to offer.

Agriculture once again remained at the heart of the fair, with livestock shows, equine competitions and youth events drawing strong participation throughout the weekend. From beef and sheep shows to heavy horse events, dressage, team roping and the ever-popular mutton busting, the show rings were busy from morning until evening.

The fairgrounds offered something for every age and interest. Visitors explored the Exhibit Hall, tradeshow, craft displays, antique exhibits, bingo hall, threshing demonstrations, modified tractor pull, Reunion Hall and Old Timers Cabin while enjoying a variety of entertainment on the Showcase Stage.

The lawn mower races once again proved to be one of the weekend’s most entertaining attractions. Competitors travelled from across Alberta and beyond, demonstrating just how far the event’s reputation continues to reach.

Evening entertainment kept the grandstand lively as audiences enjoyed comedy ventriloquist Michael Harrison on Thursday, country performer Travis Dolter on Friday and Stars and Stories Live: The Story of Waylon Jennings to close out the fair on Saturday night.

The ever-popular chuckwagon and pony chariot races thrilled spectators once again, while West Coast Amusements kept midway rides and games busy throughout the weekend. Food vendors also enjoyed steady lineups as fairgoers sampled everything from classic fair favourites to sweet treats.

Despite temperatures climbing throughout all three days, visitors embraced the summer heat, with many taking in full days of activities before gathering for the evening entertainment.

Behind every successful fair, however, is an army of dedicated volunteers.

For months leading up to opening day, hundreds of volunteer hours were invested preparing the grounds, organizing exhibits, coordinating competitions and ensuring every detail was ready to welcome visitors. Throughout the three-day event, volunteers continued working behind the scenes and on the front lines: moving people throughout the grounds, assisting exhibitors, maintaining facilities, helping with admissions and countless other tasks that often go unnoticed.

Their commitment and pride in the Vermilion Fair continue to be the foundation of its success, helping preserve a tradition that has now spanned 120 years.

Fair organizers expressed their appreciation to the many volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, competitors, entertainers and visitors whose support once again made the Vermilion Fair a tremendous success.

As another chapter closes on this year’s fair, the memories created over the past three days will no doubt carry the community forward until everyone gathers once again for the 121st Vermilion Fair next summer.
