Hit The Trails For Mistahiya FUN Run And Walk!

For those of you who are looking for a fun-filled challenge in the outdoors this summer, check out the 'FUN' trail run and walk along the Battle River in the beautiful Mistahiya Valley on June 10.

Alain Goguen, Denwood Outdoors Athletics Club (DOAC) running director and treasurer said the DOAC running group organized a Mistahiya Fun Run this year because the club wanted to do something different and fun.

Mistahiya Valley Trails Friendly Race. Join the fun and gather poker cards along the 7.5 km

Battle River race trails, the best hand at the end will win!

“We wanted to organize a fun event because we didn’t have the Spring Fling this year and we thought it would be a great idea to get out in the beautiful Mistahiya Valley; it’s a hidden gem of a region and we just wanted to bring people out there to see it.

Mistahiya owners Cliff and Cathy Brown were really helpful and accommodating letting us use their facilities for the day," said Goguen.

The course will be running or walking the 7.5 kilometer XC ski trail along the river.

"For those who will want an extra challenge, we are working to give them an option to go the top of the old Mistahiya Ski Hill after the regular loop. Everybody is welcome. This is a 'FUN' run/walk, not an official timed race, although we will have a time clock running.

People will gather poker cards along the way, and at the end, the best hand will win our main prize which will be an awesome pair of Under Armour running shoes from Armstrong's in Wainwright. We will also have smaller prizes for the first place finishers, and most likely a few others draw prizes based on your poker hand.

If people want to, they can walk the course. People are welcome to bring their own food or water, but there will also be water provided. After the race there will be snacks and music at the Mistahiya Lodge,” said Goguen.

There will also be forms available that morning if people want to join the Denwood Outdoors Athletics Club. The club is open to both military and civilian members of all ages.

The friendly race will start at 10 a.m. and registration will open on site at 9 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.

Parking will be located at the end of the road at the old ski hill in Mistahiya (10 kilometers east off Highway 41 at the Riverdale/ Mistahiya Exit).

The race will cost $5 for DOAC members and $10 for Non-DOAC members. (It will be cash only).
