Celebrating dedication and team spirit, the Vermilion Soccer Association hosted the 10th Annual Derek Bucharski Memorial Awards for U13 - U19 players on June 25. After losing their son who was a passionate and active member of the Vermilion Soccer Association in 2008, the Bucharski family continues to be a big supporter of soccer. According to Vice President, Kristin Ward, players that have received the award in the past hold it near and dear to their hearts. “The Bucharski family are wonderful ambassadors within the association. We appreciate everything they offer to players and families involved with soccer. They continue to support their grandchildren as well as every other child on the bench. With the awards being about the pure love of the sport, sportsmanship, showing growth, and being part of a team, I think it’s a pretty powerful ceremony because of the love and pride shown forth from the family,” said Ward. The 2018 recipients of the award were U11-Tomas Liebenberg, U13-Kira Jaremco, U15-Shelby Cartier, and U17/19-Evan Evangalista. “We would like to congratulate everyone on a great year, as well as the Vermilion teams going to Provincials! We really enjoy still being involved and watching the growth of the soccer players from the beginning of the year to the end of the year,” said Mary Bucharski.
