Lakeland College held their 3rd Annual Feast on the Farm fundraising for student-managed learning and leadership opportunities in Vermilion on August 18. Area dignitaries included Vermilion Mayor Caroline McAuley, Vermilion-Lloydminster MLA Dr. Richard Starke, County of Vermilion River Reeve Dale Swyripa, and Lloydminster Mayor Gerald Aalbers. Emcee, Matt Peck from Australia, who studied an accounting major at the Lloydminster campus and said, “Lakeland College gave me the chance to pursue my dreams of playing collegiate sports (volleyball).” Fellow student and emcee, Allivia Sauer from Acadia Valley, studied agribusiness and said, “Lakeland College provides a top-notch learning environment close to home.” Guests enjoyed a gourmet meal and a live auction, as well as musical entertainment by The Laurence Boys.
“We were born and raised in Vermilion and know how important agriculture is, and how important the college and the contributions they make to the town and the area are. We’re honoured that Lakeland College asked us to perform here again, and are proud to be a part of it,” said Joe Laurence. Lakeland College President and CEO, Alice Wainwright-Stewart, was thrilled with the setting and the opportunity to showcase student talent, showing the community what Lakeland College is all about. “Thank you for your support and for helping our students take the lead today. With your generous support, we will continue to expand leadership opportunities for our students to lead and innovate both on and off campus. When given these opportunities, our students make the most of them. The knowledge and skills our students learn through these experiences transfer well to any career path,” said Wainwright-Stewart.
