Vermilion River Flying Club – 1st Anniversary

The Vermilion River Flying Club celebrated their 1st Anniversary on May 15, at the Vermilion Airport. After enjoying a meal together, new executive nominations and votes took place and all positions were filled by acclimation. New roles include Darcy Balaneski - president, Don Oldenburg - vice president, Larry Bingham - secretary, Matt Jaremco - treasurer. The club welcomed guests and new members Bob Little from Lloydminster and John Newport from Elk Point. Agenda items included membership renewals, research in regards to club aircraft ownership, a used bicycle and more to come, and working alongside the Town of Vermilion through the Airport Advisory Committee. “In regards to fuel, AFD is looking at Vermilion as a potential site. The airport creates availability and development promotion. We need to make sure that people understand that there is land and business opportunity here. They have survey spots for three more hangers if people build their own, and currently there are two prospective rental spaces if they change the use of the quonset,” said past president, Shawn Jacula. “A hanger door installed could pay itself off in approximately two years,” added Darcy Balaneski. The club went on to enjoy a tour of Air Force equipment by 42 Radar Squadron who were undergoing exercises stationed at the Vermilion Airport.
