On October 17, the Vermilion Art Club presented long-time member Sandra Miller with a collaborative painting which had nine contributors from the Art Club.
Sandra Miller has been involved in the Art Club since the late 70’s, and was president for almost 10 years before giving up the role just last year. Throughout the years, club members originally took turns every two years to be president; however, approximately 10 years ago, no one was willing to take on the role, leaving the responsibility to Miller.
Miller moved to Vermilion in 1969, and got serious about oil painting when presented with the opportunity to teach Art 20 and 30 at J.R. Robson. She then took some lessons in Edmonton.
“Oil is my favourite medium, but I’ve been playing around with acrylics,” said Miller.
The idea to collaborate on a piece of artwork came about last fall, with the original plan to present the artwork to Miller at the 10th annual Art Show, which unfortunately was cancelled this spring due to COVID-19. Art Club member Eraine Wegiel organized the presentation at Upper Level Art gallery instead, where it will be on display after one month of being hung in Miller’s home.
While Miller has retired as club president, she still plans to be involved in the Art Club.
“I’m totally blown away by the club’s recognition,” Miller commented.
