In an act of community spirit, Kirby Whitlock, the owner of Christina’s Home Furnishings, presented a generous donation of $1,600 to Karen Hughes, representing the Vermilion Elementary School hot lunch program. The donation was handed over on October 24.

The benevolent gesture was split into two equal parts, with $800 stemming from the proceeds of Christina’s Home Furnishings community barbeques and the remaining $800 arising from an unconventional yet altruistic source: Whitlock’s hair donation for wigs for cancer patients. Whitlock grew his hair during the post-pandemic period, and when friends offered to pay him to cut his locks, he selflessly donated the earnings toward this noble initiative.

Expressing his profound appreciation, Kirby Whitlock extended his heartfelt thanks to the community for their unwavering support of the barbeque events, without which such a meaningful donation would not have been possible.

“Without the support of the community, these donations could never happen, and I am so grateful for everyone who purchased items from the barbeque so that I could present the hot lunch program with this donation,” said Whitlock.

Whitlock also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to his friends who contributed to his hair donation initiative, helping him double the overall donation amount. In his words, “I would also like to thank my friends who donated for me to cut my hair; it helped me double the donation. Go Team!”
