Under sunny skies and beautiful temperatures, the Dewberry Chuckwagon Racing Society held the first World Chuckwagon Races of the season from July 1-4.
Hundreds of Chuckwagon fans filled the Grandstands and watched from their vehicles in drive-up style. Attendees had the opportunity to socialize in the beer gardens, dances, and feast on a variety of food truck tastes.
While local favourites Kurt Bensiller and his brother Chance Bensmiller did not qualify for the Championship Finals on Sunday, they did have very successful races throughout the four-day event.
Night three of the races provided drivers the final chance to qualify for the $25,000 Championship final heat on Sunday. At the end of the night on day three, Kris Molle who was driving the Benoit Oilfield Construction outfit was in first place with an overall combined time of 3:24.9.1. Layne MacGillivaray and former Dewberry Champion Obrey Motowylo also ended the evening qualifying for the Championship Final.
In a very close Championship heat Layne MacGillivray beat out Kris Molle, and Obrey Motowylo with a penalty-free race of 1:10:88 even though Kris Molle crossed the line first, but lost the win due to a time penalty. MacGillivray was driving the Cougar Fuels outfit, with outrider Trey MacGillivary.
