Lakeland College opened its doors to prospective students, families, and friends during its annual Open House held on October 17 and 18. The two-day event, running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at both the Lloydminster and Vermilion campuses, gave visitors a chance to experience campus life first-hand, explore programs, and connect with the vibrant Lakeland community.

Visitors were able to explore more than 50 programs across a wide range of disciplines, from agriculture and trades to business, health, and environmental sciences. Guided tours, interactive demonstrations, and one-on-one conversations with current students, instructors, and academic advisors gave attendees an inside look at what makes Lakeland a unique place to learn. One of the biggest draws of the weekend was the opportunity for open house attendees to apply for free, a special perk offered exclusively to in-person guests.

“Open House is an amazing way for students considering Lakeland to see what it’s really like,” said Katelyn Vallee, supervisor of recruitment and enrolment at Lakeland. “Not only did they get to learn more about our programs, but they also engaged in hands-on activities, connected with students and faculty, and toured our incredible labs and learning spaces.”

Both campuses were buzzing with energy as guests explored the facilities. In Lloydminster, visitors toured the student-run salon and spa, health care aide and science labs, and the state-of-the-art Cenovus Energy Centre. Over in Vermilion, the Student-Managed Farm, Powered by New Holland drew plenty of interest, with stops at the Dairy Learning Centre, Agriculture Technology Centre, Animal Health Clinic, and trades labs. Guests also toured the Emergency Training Centre and viewed the progress on the new Bentley Building, while the recently completed WHT Mead Building showcased Lakeland’s ongoing commitment to growth and innovation.

Throughout the day, guests were treated to Lakeland swag, took part in draws for prizes, and received guidance on applying to college, accessing student services, and exploring residence options. Many visitors commented on the welcoming atmosphere and the sense of pride shown by Lakeland’s students and staff, who were eager to share their experiences and answer questions.

For many families, the event provided a valuable opportunity to see the supportive, hands-on learning environment that sets Lakeland apart. Prospective students were able to picture themselves in the classrooms, labs, and outdoor learning spaces, gaining a true sense of what their future could look like.

For those unable to attend in person, a separate virtual Open House is scheduled for October 29, designed to connect with prospective online and blended-learning students. The virtual event will offer live chats with instructors and program coordinators, virtual campus tours, and insights into Lakeland’s flexible learning options, ensuring that no matter where they are, future Rustlers can experience what makes Lakeland College a leader in practical, student-driven education.
