A new chapter has officially begun for pHotential Health in Vermilion as Dr. Garima Parmar celebrated the clinic’s new ownership with a ribbon-cutting and welcome plaque ceremony on July 14.

Although the clinic officially opened under Dr. Parmar’s ownership on July 2, the ceremony provided an opportunity to welcome her to the community and mark the transition. Joining the celebration were Town of Vermilion Mayor Robert Snow, Economic Development Manager Mary Lee Prior, and Vermilion Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Aiyana Thompson.

Mayor Snow welcomed Dr. Parmar to Vermilion and spoke about the value of expanding local healthcare services.

“I am very happy to welcome you to our community. Our town was definitely going to be lacking this service, and I am sure the residents will benefit from your care,” said Snow.

Prior and Thompson also congratulated Dr. Parmar, expressing their enthusiasm for the clinic’s continued presence in the community.

Dr. Parmar thanked the community leaders for their warm welcome and said she is excited to become part of Vermilion.

“I am honoured to now be part of the Vermilion community and look forward to serving the health needs of local individuals and families,” she said.

She also acknowledged the strong foundation built by the clinic’s previous owner, Sheila Viel.

“pHotential Health has built an outstanding reputation over the years under Sheila Viel’s care. The clinic welcomes patients not only from Vermilion and the surrounding communities, but also from over a 200-kilometre radius, including parts of Saskatchewan and BC. I feel truly privileged to continue the legacy she has built and is grateful for the opportunity to learn from Sheila during this transition.”

Although Viel has partially retired from her naturopathic practice, she will continue providing Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) and Psychotherapy (trauma informed) through pHotential Health.

“These services remain in high demand within our community, and I am delighted that patients can continue to benefit from her extensive experience and compassionate care,” said Dr. Parmar.

Before immigrating to Canada, Dr. Parmar trained and practiced as a pediatrician in India, earning her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Diploma in Child Health (DCH). After moving to Canada, she completed her education as a Naturopathic Doctor (ND), combining her conventional medical background with naturopathic medicine.

Dr. Parmar said her approach to patient care focuses on identifying and treating the underlying causes of illness rather than simply managing symptoms.

“As a Naturopathic Doctor, my focus is on identifying and addressing the root causes of disease rather than simply managing symptoms. I use evidence-informed natural therapies and create individualized treatment plans based on each patient’s unique health concerns and goals.”

Her practice offers a variety of treatment options, including acupuncture, botanical (herbal) medicine, homeopathy, clinical nutrition and lifestyle counselling, and nutritional supplementation. She provides care for both acute and chronic conditions, including women’s and men’s health, hormonal and thyroid concerns, digestive disorders, allergies, stress and anxiety, chronic fatigue, metabolic health, autism, Cancer care and pediatric wellness. Dr. Parmar also plans to introduce Intravenous (IV) Nutrient Therapy in the near future, further expanding the services available to patients in Vermilion and the surrounding region.

Appointments are covered by most extended health insurance plans, and direct billing is available through many insurance providers.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Vermilion community and look forward to helping individuals and families achieve better health and wellness,” said Dr. Parmar.
