What do you get when you mix 48 bright-eyed kindergarteners, some maracas, a slideshow of future dreams, and a whole lot of love? A magical graduation night that had everyone smiling from ear to ear.
The evening began with a sweet procession as the little grads made their way in proudly, some shy, some excited, all ready to show just how far they’ve come. From those first nervous steps into the classroom in September to the confident, curious learners they are today, the transformation has been nothing short of incredible.
Family, friends, and faculty were then treated to a heartwarming slideshow showcasing what each child dreams of becoming when they grow up. The photos complete with graduation caps and grins reminded us all that the future is in good hands. Their aspirations ranged from farmers riding tractors and playing with cows, to veterinarians cuddling animals, and of course, doctors, truck drivers, and a healthy number of future police officers ready to “lock up the bad guys” and keep the world safe. Their imaginations are as big as their hearts.
After a meaningful land acknowledgment and a short speech about the graduates from Principal Mrs. Shelia Doherty, the audience was reminded once again of how far these students have come. Many started the year unsure and a little apprehensive, but now, they’re ready to take on Grade 1 with confidence, kindness, and curiosity.
Under the guidance of the ever-passionate Mrs. Hallie Zaharko, the students performed their very first group number, What I Am, with so much joy and energy that it was impossible not to smile. “I was a little nervous about this one,” Mrs. Zaharko admitted with a laugh, “but you guys nailed it!”
She went on to share how these young learners had amazed her throughout the year with their honesty, creativity, and how they’d learned to solve problems in such inventive ways. This reflection led perfectly into the second song of the night: One Small Voice, sung loudly and proudly, with all the hand actions and heart. Individually their voices may be small but together, they filled the entire gymnasium.
In a touching moment, Mrs. Zaharko shared some of the class’s favourite memories, with one clear winner: the hatching project! Six ducklings and eleven chicks later, the students experienced a hands-on science lesson they’ll never forget, and a whole lot of fluffy fun in the classroom.
Praising their growth in patience, responsibility, and confidence, Mrs. Zaharko introduced the final number: Everything Grows. Even after two big performances, the kids weren’t tired in the slightest. They gave it their all, complete with a surprise maraca performance and a perfectly timed finale, pulled off without even needing a cue.
Before the night wrapped up, Mrs. Zaharko offered a heartfelt thank-you to all the families and special guests. “Thank you for the opportunity to spend every day with your child. These children up here are truly incredible. I’m so grateful for your support.”
As a final treat, the children got to watch themselves on the big screen, a highlight that had the gym buzzing with laughter as the children excitedly called out each other’s names, proudly pointed to the screen, and soaked in the applause while proud parents snapped photo after photo.
And what better way to end the evening than with a full-out dance party to the Alphabet Dance. The crowd cheered as the little graduates danced their hearts out one last time as kindergarteners.
Families then collected certificates and farewell gifts, posed for photos around the gym, and said their goodbyes, sending these little graduates off to Grade 1 with love, pride, and a few happy tears.
The kindergarten class of 2025 came in nervous but curious and they’re leaving confident and ready.
