The Vermilion Nordic Ski Club hosted a Skiathalon & Fun Race at the Vermilion Provincial Park on March 1. Participants had the opportunity to enter 2 or 4 kilometre classics, 2 or 4 kilometre skate skis, and 2 or 4 kilometre fun races. “Cross country skiing is good exercise, allows you the opportunity to get some fresh air, and is overall really enjoyable. Hosted by the Vermilion Nordic Ski Club, this was the first one held in over 3 years due to snow and weather conditions. Participants ranged from approximately age 6 – 60, and distances from 2 – 30 kilometers could be chosen.

The Jackrabbits cross country skiers meet weekly in Vermilion as part of a Canada-wide program.
Ten-year old Jillayne Needham said, I love that when you are going down a hill you go really fast, and I like getting exercise and being outside.”
“Jackrabbits is a real family thing, many parents and grandparents ski with us. I am very thankful to my volunteer helpers as there are 21 children registered. There are some pretty keen children!” said coordinator, Sandra Kathnelson.
