As the winter months pass, the Lakeland Rowing Club refuses to let the chill dampen their spirits. Instead, they’re gearing up for an exciting lineup of indoor rowing competitions that should ignite the competitive spirit and showcase their dedication to the sport.
Under the guidance of Coach Peter Walsh, club members have been diligently practicing their skills on stationary rowing machines at the college, ensuring they remain in top form for the challenges ahead.
One event that promises to be a highlight on the calendar is the Canadian Indoor Rowing Day, scheduled for Saturday, February 24. Put on by the Provincial Rowing Advisory Councils, this day isn’t about competition—it’s about uniting rowers nationwide in a collective effort to push their limits. Participants will aim to clock in as many meters as possible (within a three hour time frame), with the ultimate goal of surpassing previous achievements and collectively traversing the length and breadth of Canada. The event will take place at the Lakeland College gym, located within the Vermilion Campus.
“We’re not just aiming to cross the country this time; we’re looking to make a round trip,” remarked Coach Walsh, highlighting the club’s ambitious aspirations for this year’s challenge.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there. On March 9, eyes will be on the Alberta Indoor Rowing Championships, where athletes will converge for a shot at provincial glory. This indoor event will see the Lakeland Rowing Club’s Rustler crew pitted against club and university rowers, forming a dynamic field of over 150 athletes vying for supremacy.
