The County of Minburn and the Wapasu Committee proudly celebrated the grand opening of the new Wapasu Gazebo on October 15 at the Wapasu Recreation Conservancy Park. The event, held from 4 to 6 p.m., featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony along with hamburgers, hotdogs, and light refreshments for all in attendance.

The new structure replaces the original cook shack, which was tragically lost to fire earlier this year. The former building, a community fixture since 1975, had long served as a gathering spot for park visitors. With the full support of County Council, the replacement project was completed by Twin Ridge Construction at a total cost of $46,102.

The newly built 20-by-20-foot metal-clad gazebo is larger and more functional than its predecessor, offering a practical and durable space for visitors to enjoy. Its upgraded design provides better shelter and makes efficient use of the park’s scenic space, ensuring longevity against the elements.

In addition to the gazebo, the County has made several other enhancements to the Wapasu Recreation Conservancy Park. These include the installation of bear-proof garbage cans, repairs to the perimeter fencing, and the addition of three new picnic tables to complement the existing amenities.

During the ceremony, Councillor Tara Kuzio, Chair of the Wapasu Committee, delivered remarks and led the ribbon-cutting. Committee members Councillor Cliff Wowdzia and Councillor Eric Anderson, along with Reeve Roger Konieczny, were also present to commemorate the occasion.

The event not only marked the completion of the new gazebo but also underscored the County of Minburn’s ongoing dedication to preserving and improving Wapasu Conservancy Park, a cherished day-use destination that continues to bring residents and visitors together in the spirit of community.
