An evening with a country feel will help support student athletes when the Lakeland College Rodeo Gala takes place Thursday, November 5, at the Vermilion Regional Centre.

Running from 5 to 11 p.m., the gala will bring supporters together to raise funds for the college’s rodeo program, helping provide students with opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.

Proceeds will go towards several needs within the program, including new practice equipment, team travel expenses, event-specific coaching and team wear. Each contributes to giving athletes the resources they need to practise, develop their skills and compete while pursuing their education.

Increasing the program’s scholarship budget is another priority. Organizers hope additional scholarship support will encourage intercollegiate rodeo athletes to stay in Canada as they continue their education and competition.

Funds will also help purchase higher-value raffle prizes, supporting further fundraising for the team.

The gala gives community members an opportunity to contribute directly to the program and the students who balance their studies with the demands of rodeo. Tickets and further information are available through Eventbrite under Lakeland College Rodeo Gala.

Rodeo activities will continue November 6 to 8 when Lakeland College’s Vermilion campus hosts a Bareback and Saddle Bronc School. The three-day school will give riders an opportunity to develop their skills with guidance from experienced instructors.

The advertised instructor lineup includes Kody Lamb, Kolby Wanchuk, Kole Ashbacher, Mel Hyland, Kyle Wanchuk and Tyrel Roberts.

Registration begins at noon on November 6 in the Recreation Centre gym, with sessions running from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on November 7 and 8. Tuition is $500, and space is limited, with spots secured on a first-paid basis.
