Marwayne Celebrates 100 Years With Small-Town Spirit

Rain may have settled over Marwayne on Saturday, June 27, but it did little to dampen the spirit of a community celebrating 100 years of history, pride and connection.

While the weather was far from ideal, residents, volunteers, local organizations, families and visitors still showed up in true small-town fashion.

The day began with a pancake breakfast at the Fire Hall before the parade made its way through the village. Despite the rain, people lined the streets, waved from under umbrellas and cheered on the floats, vehicles and community groups that took part.

The Centennial Vendor Market also went ahead from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., giving visitors a chance to browse local makers, unique finds and community booths. The Antique Car Show continued as planned as well, adding another piece of nostalgia to a celebration already filled with memories.

Although the Centennial Dash was cancelled due to the weather, the rest of the day carried on. Main stage entertainment, kids zone activities, wagon rides, a petting zoo, Seniors Centre activities, the arena concession and the Legion Beer Gardens all helped keep the celebration going.

By evening, the focus shifted to the Marwayne Community Hall, where the Centennial Supper brought everyone together for a meal and visiting. The family dance followed, with The Prairie Dogs providing the music and giving people a chance to close out the day together.

There was something fitting about the way the day unfolded.

It was not perfect weather, and not every plan could go ahead exactly as hoped, but the heart of the celebration remained untouched. From the volunteers working behind the scenes to the people who came out in the rain.

Mother Nature may have brought the miserable energy, but Marwayne did not match it. Instead, the village marked its 100th year with warmth, pride and the kind of community spirit that has helped carry it through a century.
