A small gift can mean a great deal, especially when it comes with the reminder that someone is thinking of you.

Vermilion’s Shoppers Drug Mart is bringing back its Holiday Cheer Tree, giving residents an opportunity to brighten the Christmas season for local seniors.

The program connects seniors with community members who would like to purchase a gift for them. A favourite chocolate, some nuts, warm mitts or another small item to enjoy over the holidays can leave a lasting impression.

Seniors who could use a little extra cheer are invited to stop by the store, pick up a gift tag and write down their wish. Completed tags are returned to a cashier, who collects their contact information before the tag is placed on the tree.

For those wishing to give, taking part is just as easy. Choose a tag from the Cheer Tree, purchase the requested gift and return it to the cashier. The Shoppers Drug Mart team takes care of getting the gift to the senior.

The tree offers a simple way to do something thoughtful for someone in the community. For shoppers, it may be one extra purchase on a Christmas list. For the person receiving it, it can bring a welcome moment of happiness during the holiday season.

As Christmas approaches and schedules fill up, the program is also a reminder to make time for the seniors around us. A visit, a conversation or a small gift can help someone feel remembered and included.

Residents interested in making a wish or fulfilling one can stop by Vermilion’s Shoppers Drug Mart and help bring a little holiday cheer to a local senior.
