Volunteers At The Heart Of Vermilion Rotary Garage Sale

After months of collecting donations, sorting boxes, organizing tables, arranging furniture, and helping thousands of items find new homes and saving them from the landfill, the volunteers behind the Vermilion Rotary Garage Sale were finally able to slow down and celebrate together.

On May 7, the Rotary Club of Vermilion hosted a volunteer appreciation barbecue to recognize the many individuals who helped make this year’s annual garage sale possible.

Held following one of the organization’s busiest fundraising events of the year, the gathering allowed volunteers to connect outside of the fast-paced atmosphere of the sale itself and reflect on the amount of work that goes into bringing the event together each spring.

During the evening, Rotary members recognized the incredible dedication shown by volunteers throughout the month of April. In total, more than 1,200 volunteer hours were contributed at the curling rink and the Heritage Pavilion in preparation for and during the garage sale.

Those efforts helped make this year’s event a tremendous success, raising $70,128. Rotary members noted that every dollar raised will remain within the community, supporting Vermilion events, organizations, and local initiatives throughout the year.

While shoppers often see rows of tables packed with treasures, busy crowds, and volunteers helping carry purchases, countless hours of work happen quietly behind the scenes long before the doors ever open.

From hauling and sorting donations, setting up displays, managing cash tables, cleaning up, and restocking throughout the weekend, the sale depends heavily on volunteers willing to dedicate their time and energy to the large-scale community initiative.

The appreciation barbecue served as a meaningful way to acknowledge those efforts and celebrate the impact created through volunteerism and community support.

Bernie Webb shared heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the continued support from volunteers and the community. Rotary members also extended thanks to every donor, shopper, and supporter who contributed to the success of the fundraiser.

Events like the Rotary Garage Sale have become a familiar tradition within Vermilion, not only because of the funds raised, but because of the people behind it. Year after year, volunteers of all ages continue to step forward to help wherever needed, making the event possible.

As the barbecue wrapped up, it served as another reminder that the volunteer spirit behind the annual garage sale continues long after the tables are packed away.
