2018 Vermilion & District Rotary Music Festival

The Vermilion & District Rotary Music Festival Association held their 2018 Festival from March 19 – 23, with a Final Concert at Parkview Alliance Church on March 25.

The Piano portion was held at the Parkview Alliance Church on March 19 – 20, with children from Lloydminster, Vermilion, Irma, and Wainwright participating. Adjudicator, Joseph Fridman, noted that although music is structure, for participants to not be detached and get to know characters before they begin playing.

“Music, or any art, is about communication. It allows us to understand better who we are. Express yourself; it’s very important for listeners to be engaged in your playing. Get involved in the piece you are playing; play with all of your being, not just your fingers. Bravo to everyone,” said Fridman.

Kimberly Denis adjudicated the speech and vocal arts portion of the festival and said, “It’s legitimately cool that you found a book at the library and are exploring reading some of these texts at your age. I think it makes you a better human to understand Shakespeare.”

Meran Currie-Roberts adjudicated the Stings portion of the festival and said, “One of the most challenging things is the first note. Thank you for taking a dismal day and making it beautiful through your performances.”
