Skate Park Grand Re-opening

Approximately 75 people gathered with excitement at the Vermilion Skate Park on June 5, as the Vermilion Wellness Coalition hosted the park’s Grand Re-opening. Director of Community Services, Shawn Bell thanked everyone for coming; The Parks, Recreation and Culture Board for approving the project; and Town Council for finding the funds. “Without them, we couldn’t have done it,” said Bell. He also thanked Boardom for coming from Lloydminster to provide a demonstration, VIBE for the graffiti wall, and Adam Steen and other community members for their input on what equipment they wanted to see at the park. “We were thrilled to be invited. It was a fantastic event, and nice that it never rained. We look forward to continuing to serve the area,” said Boardom’s Shawna Intwert. Boardom is located on Highway 17 in Lloydminster and has a service shop for skateboard and scooter assembly or grip tape, as well as a large selection of clothing and accessories. A bike rodeo coincided with the event, and people enjoyed water and snacks while watching the tricks. Children and adults enjoyed the opportunity to try out new equipment and acquire new skills. “This is a great park, and it is getting a lot of use. I’m excited to have new equipment, and wish everyone a safe time here,” said Mayor, Caroline McAuley. Members of the Vermilion RCMP were on site ensuring everyone’s safety, and prizes were distributed at the end of the event.
