As the sun dipped low on a warm, breezy June evening, I was driving home from a joyful kindergarten graduation when the unmistakable sound of bagpipes and drums caught my attention. The music floated through the air, impossible to ignore. As a lifelong admirer of pipe and drum music, I was compelled to stop and listen.
Following the sound, I discovered the Vermilion Pipes and Drums gathered outdoors for a rehearsal. They welcomed me warmly and graciously allowed me to watch as they prepared for their upcoming performance in the Vermilion Parade.
With every beat of the drum and cry of the pipes, there’s an unmatched energy, infused with tradition, and pride. It was an unplanned encounter, but a memorable one, a reminder of the rich cultural heritage this group carries and generously shares with the community.
The Vermilion Parade, scheduled for late July, is sure to be a summer highlight, with the Vermilion Pipes and Drums proudly playing in the festivities. Their music, echoing through a golden summer evening, is more than just sound is a reminder of Vermilion spirit, strong and steady.
The Vermilion Pipes and Drums are currently welcoming new members. Whether you’re an experienced player or simply interested in learning, they encourage anyone with a passion for tradition and music to get involved.
