Rustlers Open Soccer Season On New Home Turf

The Lakeland College Rustlers opened their 2026 soccer season with four home games over the August 29 and 30 weekend, giving local fans their first look at the teams on Holy Rosary High School’s new outdoor artificial turf field.
The women’s team got the weekend off to a strong start on Saturday, evening with a 3–2 victory over The King’s University Eagles. The men followed later that afternoon but were unable to hold off the Eagles, falling 5–2 in their season opener.
The Rustlers returned to the field Sunday to take on the NAIT Ooks. The women suffered a 3–1 loss, while the men were shut out 3–0.
Several new recruits made their way into the starting lineups during the opening weekend, including Courtney Grant with the women’s squad and Diego Manrique with the men. Both teams also welcomed back a core group of returning players as they began the new Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season.
The weekend also marked the Rustlers’ first regular-season games on Holy Rosary’s new artificial turf. The outdoor surface, built at a cost of more than $2 million, will serve as the home field for Lakeland’s soccer teams throughout the season.
The Rustlers will return home Sept. 19 and 20 for back-to-back games against Keyano College. They will also host Concordia University of Edmonton on September 27 before wrapping up their regular-season home schedule against Portage College on October 17.
