The Cackling Goose

Dedicated bird enthusiasts were up before sunrise on June 6 as they gathered at Vermilion Provincial Park for the annual spring bird count, spending the day documenting species and contributing valuable information to ongoing bird monitoring efforts.

Participants met at the Trout Pond at 5 a.m. before heading to the west end of the park to begin what many consider some of the finest spring birding in the region. The morning route covered approximately four miles through a variety of habitats, offering excellent opportunities to observe both resident and migratory birds.

Conditions were typical of an early June morning, with dew-covered grasses and active birdlife providing a rewarding experience for those willing to make the early start. Throughout the day, observers recorded sightings while travelling through forests, wetlands, grasslands, and shoreline areas within the park.
