Despite harsh weather conditions, including high winds and snow on Friday, April 24, members of the Lt. Col Craig Historical Society gathered to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Kapyong, which took place from April 24 to 27, 1951.

Fire School EST students were in attendance alongside retired Captain Mike ter Kuile, CD, and retired Lieutenant Daphne ter Kuile, CD, who played key roles in the students’ drill training. The pair led the inspection and march past, demonstrating the discipline and precision they had helped instill in the battalion.

Among the special guests were Mayor Rob Snow, a retired paramedic, who participated in the EST students’ inspection, as well as Todd Sumner, Vice President of Academic and Research at Lakeland College, and Emergency Training Centre trainer Don Keenan. Following the inspection and the slow and quick march past, Padre Gordon Hill led a prayer before the EST students and guests moved outdoors for a solemn ceremony that included the laying of a wreath and the raising of the Canadian flag in honour of those who fought at Kapyong.
