Lyster Family Golf Tournament Raises Funds For New Driving Range

The Mannville Riverview Golf Course was bustling with activity on Friday, August 21, as golfers, volunteers and supporters came together for the annual Lyster Family Golf Fundraiser.

After being rescheduled from its usual July date, the popular tournament returned with approximately 25 teams of four taking part, bringing around 100 golfers to the course for a full day of friendly competition and community spirit.

The tournament got underway at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start, sending teams out to different holes across the course at the same time. Golfing continued throughout the day, wrapping up around 6 p.m.

Dan and Cheryl Lyster have been longtime supporters of the Mannville Riverview Golf Course, and their annual fundraiser has become a familiar event that brings together golfers from Mannville and surrounding communities while raising money for improvements to the local course.

This year’s fundraising efforts are being directed toward the development of a new driving range at the Mannville Riverview Golf Course, adding another amenity for both experienced golfers and those looking for a place to practice their swing.

Around 20 volunteers helped keep the busy day running smoothly, while fundraising continued on and off the fairways through a silent auction, barbecue raffle and games on certain holes throughout the green.

A couple of huge highlights during the event were the opportunities for a chance to win a brand new FTR Golf Car worth $16,900.

“There is one chance to win one of the two golf carts. The golfer who gets the first hole-in-one on hole 3 will win $2,500 and the golf cart, and if a second hole-in-one is to happen that golfer will win a golf cart,” said founder of FRT Golf Cars, Garrett Fraser.

Another highlight of the day was the opportunity to win $20,000 from ABC Drywall with a Hole-in-one on Hole 8.

Following the day’s golfing, participants gathered for a hearty supper featuring roast beef, mashed potatoes, three salads and dessert, giving everyone a chance to relax, visit and cap off the day’s activities.

The Lyster family’s connection to the Mannville course goes back many years. What began as a family’s love of golf has grown into an annual effort to give back to a course that has played an important role in their lives.

Over the years, proceeds from the tournament have helped support improvements at Mannville Riverview. This year’s focus on a new driving range continues that tradition of investing funds raised through the tournament directly back into the facility.

With approximately 100 golfers, 20 volunteers and numerous community supporters contributing to the day, the annual Lyster Family Golf Fundraiser once again demonstrated what can be accomplished when a community comes together in support of one of its local recreational facilities.
