When Trevor Redmon arrived in Vermilion on June 3, he was already 12,471 kilometres into his latest cross-Canada journey.
Known to many as “The Fellow in Yellow,” Redmon stopped at the Town of Vermilion office to visit with Chief Administrative Officer Shannon Harrower and share the message that has carried him across thousands of kilometres of Canadian highways: the importance of movement, mental wellness, and human connection.
A familiar sight in his bright yellow attire, Redmon is currently completing his third coast-to-coast crossing of Canada. His first journey saw him walk 11,421 kilometres across the country. He later cycled another 14,632 kilometres from coast to coast. Combined with the 12,471 kilometres he had travelled upon reaching Vermilion, Redmon has covered more than 38,000 kilometres across Canada. He calls the accomplishment his “Grand Trifecta.”
“As far as I know, I’m the only one that’s done it,” he said. Yet Redmon says the real Grand Trifecta is not about distance at all. “What has gotten me across Canada all this distance is another Grand Trifecta,” he explained. “Keeping a healthy mind, keeping a healthy body, and keeping a healthy spirit.”
For Redmon, the journey is about encouraging Canadians to recognize the connection between physical mobility and mental health. “I don’t think we often put them together enough,” he said. “How important both of those combined are toward your own general health.”
