Canada Day in Vermilion was nothing short of spectacular as residents and visitors gathered at the Vermilion Agricultural Grounds to celebrate the nation’s birthday in true community spirit. From the moment festivities kicked off at 10 a.m., the grounds buzzed with laughter, cheer, and a palpable sense of excitement that lasted well into the evening.
Families flocked to the grounds to enjoy a full slate of activities, and the sunny skies only added to the festive mood. Children raced from one inflatable bouncy house to another, their delighted shrieks echoing through the air, while the hoverball archery range brought out competitive streaks in participants young and old. The dunk tank proved to be a crowd favourite, with many lining up to take their best shot at soaking a brave local volunteer. The Vermilion Fire Department was on hand not only to showcase their impressive fire truck but to engage with children and teach them about fire safety in a fun and interactive way.
In one of the day’s most eagerly anticipated events, the Corgi dog races took centre stage at 1 p.m., and they did not disappoint. The crowd roared with laughter and applause as the short-legged, energetic pups dashed down the track in a flurry of fur and enthusiasm. It was a sight that brought joy to spectators of all ages, with many snapping photos and cheering on their favourites.
As the afternoon sun climbed higher, attendees cooled off with treats from the colourful food trucks lining the venue, serving up everything from classic fair food to local favourites. The Icicle Bicycle Ice Cream vendor was in high demand, with people happily queuing for a refreshing cone to beat the heat. Picnic blankets and lawn chairs dotted the grounds as families took breaks between activities, soaking in the joyful atmosphere and community camaraderie.
While the day’s events wrapped up around 5 p.m., the celebration was far from over. As night fell, crowds returned, gathering with blankets and lawn chairs for the grand finale. At 11 p.m., the sky exploded in colour as fireworks lit up the horizon in a dazzling display of red and white, drawing gasps of awe and applause from the crowd. It was a fitting end to a day filled with fun, laughter, and Canadian pride.
Vermilion’s Canada Day celebrations proved once again that when it comes to bringing the community together for a good time, the Vermilion Ag Society knows how to do it right. From start to finish, the day was a roaring success and a wonderful reminder of the joy found in simple moments shared with neighbours, friends, and family.
