Looking for an enjoyable activity on June 5 while supporting a noble cause? The Vermilion Lions Club is excited to announce its 27th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, set to take place at 1 p.m. at the Vermilion Golf and Country Club.

This year’s tournament will support STARS Air Ambulance and the Kids with Cancer Society (KWCS).

“This year we decided to split a portion of the proceeds with STARS, KWCS and local projects which the Lions Club supports,” said Lions member Tyson Tschauner.

STARS is a non-profit charitable organization that provides critical care and emergency medical transport to patients across Western Canada. Operating from bases in Edmonton, Calgary, Grande Prairie, Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg, STARS uses specially equipped helicopters and highly trained medical teams to deliver life-saving care to critically ill and injured patients.

For rural communities such as Vermilion and the surrounding area, STARS plays a vital role in emergency response by providing rapid access to advanced medical care and transport to major trauma centres when every second counts. The organization responds to a wide range of emergencies including serious motor vehicle collisions, farming accidents, cardiac events, industrial incidents and other critical medical situations.

Since 1985, STARS has flown more than 66,000 missions across Western Canada and continues to provide emergency care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Kids with Cancer Society will use the funds towards their 2026 Camp Beat It! This is an annual camp that the Kids with Cancer Society hosts each year for families battling childhood cancer. This is an overnight retreat experience for families who are in all stages of their cancer journey. It’s an incredible weekend that allows families to create a community of support and allows kids to just be kids.

The Kids with Cancer Society provides unique, vital programs and services free of charge to children diagnosed with cancer and their families residing in Northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Many families describe the Kids with Cancer Society as a lifeline when their lives have been turned upside down by a cancer diagnosis.

They serve families from the time of diagnosis, through treatment, survivorship and beyond, no matter the diagnosis or treatment. Their programs and services address unique and complex needs ranging from family support programs and activities, peer support, counselling services, financial support and educational support. They also fund groundbreaking pediatric cancer research and provide support to the pediatric oncology unit at the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

The entry fee for the tournament is $75, which includes nine holes of golf, supper and prizes.

To register or learn more about the event, contact Don Good at 780-853-2220 or the Vermilion Golf Club at 780-853-4444.

Join the community for a fun-filled day on the green while making a meaningful impact in the lives of those in need.

Please note that 90 per cent of the money raised comes from local businesses.
