Vermilion Public Library Annual Fall Plant Swap
Held in the library basement from 1 to 2 p.m., the swap gave local gardeners a chance to clear out a few extras, share some of their favourites and head home with something new to add to the garden or windowsill.
A selection of plants and bulbs had already been donated ahead of Saturday's event, with even more arriving as participants brought along items to trade. From established favourites to something a little different, there was an assortment for gardeners to look through and choose from.
The idea behind the swap was simple: bring what you have, take home something new and maybe pick up a gardening tip or two along the way.
For gardeners, fall is often a time for dividing perennials, collecting seeds and deciding what will stay, move or be changed before another growing season. Instead of those extras going to waste, the plant swap gave them a chance to find a new home in someone else's garden.
It was also an opportunity to try something different without making a trip to the garden centre. A cutting, a handful of bulbs or a few seeds may not seem like much, but with a little luck and care, they could look quite different by next spring or summer.
The swap was free to attend and no registration was required, keeping things casual for anyone who wanted to stop in and see what was available.
With another growing season beginning to wind down, Saturday's swap was a fitting way to share a little bit of one garden with another before winter arrives.
