Vermilion Roar Lacrosse U16 Wins Silver

The Vermilion Roar Lacrosse U10 and U16 headed to Cold Lake from July 8 to 10 for the Minor Box Lacrosse Provincial Championships. The tournaments were hosted at the Col J.J. Parr Sports Centre, the Cold Lake Energy Centre, and the Cold Lake North Arena.

Opening ceremonies commenced Friday evening at the Imperial Oil Place in the Energy Centre to kick off the tournament.

The Vermilion Roar U10 had their first game of the tournament on July 8 at 12:30 p.m. where they battled it out against the Bonnyville Heat where they were the victor ending the game with a score of 10-4. They played again on Saturday against the North Central Wolves at 9 a.m. with a final score of 7-5. For their game against the Sherwood Park Titans, the Vermilion Roar were defeated with a score of 7-0.

The U16s had a great run at the tournament as they battled for the top Championship. On Friday they played against the Bonnyville Heat where they lost with a final score of 8-7. On Saturday the battle continued when they faced off against the Grand Prairie Thrashers and managed to squeak in a victory with the final score being 8-6, they then went on to play the Flagstaff Fusions and whooped them with a score of 13-3.

The U16 Vermilion Roar went into the championships where they played against the Brooks Drillers where they came out with a silver medal.

“The kids all played great, and we are very proud of each and every one of them, especially after just coming back after two years of COVID,” commented President Ryan Adams.
